Cheyenne Bottoms is a Kansas state wildlife area. It's part of a 41,000-acre natural land sink northeast of Great Bend, Kansas. The state aquired the land during the 1940's and 1950's and built dikes to collect water in five pools.The Cheyenne Indians mostly ate buffalo and deer meat, squash, corn and other vegetables. They also bought fish, fruits and berries from other tribes. Their women did most of the cooking.We conducted an experiment at Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area (Kansas, 14 USA) during 2017-2019 to address this question. We established a randomized complete block 15 design experiment with four blocks and three cutting treatments in July 2017, including cattail cut above water, cut below16 water, and an uncut control.
