The mission log still tells me to "retrieve" my void egg. I have no quest markers, no communications. I checked all my storage (ships/freighter/0-9 containers) and my egg is nowhere to be found. If they hand you a cracked one or anything other than just the item "void egg" it's a dud egg that you sell off. You need the base item for the quest to start.
