To start the thread, this hondamatic is from a 02 Rubicon. It is dissambled to as far as it can be.....minus bearing removal. This tranny was making a very bad grinding noise which was the reason for the teardown. Pretty simple, how many of you have had transmission problems with your Rubicons that the dealer had to fix (i.e. not something so simple that you can do it yourself in ten minutes lol). The rubicon is equiped with a transmission known as a "hondamatic". This transmission works in an automatic way because it uses sensor to tell the transmission when to shift, with input from the vehicle speed, throttle postion, and rear wheel speed. I've never taken the hondamatic transmission apart before. You need to check the U joint in the rear driveshaft at the swingarm pivot. If you still have the rear differential removed, you should be able to turn the driveshaft from the splines and feel the play in the joint.
