They are typically harder to play, and have to deal with mechanics that ranged classes can kind of ignore. When the fight is all said and done, both classes will be parsing around the same (although the melee classes will usually be at the top of the board). If you're looking for 110% pure DPS, play Fury Mara, Anni Mara, Carnage Mara, Hatred ...IMO, Operative. Both of the Operative DPS specs are some of the best DPS specs around, tho severally underplayed in PvE. Concealment is pure single-target melee, while Lethality is dot focused and a bit more range. If you want to go Snipe, Virulence is the most played in endgame ops, tho I find it kinda awkward for day-to-day adventuring.

Nowadays, Shadows are easily the strongest DPS (just look at DPS leaderboards). If you want a reliable great DPS melee class though I’d go with Juggs/Guardians.
