Apr 27, 2023 · The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I was a commission Gustav Klimt received by Ferdinand Bloch, a sugar industrialist, to paint his wife, Adele Bloch-Bauer. The commission was received in the summer of 1903, and Gustav completed it in 1907. In January of 1928, Adele got a terrible headache. Three days later, she died from what was believed to be meningitis – an inflammation of the brain. Before she died, Adele requested that Klimt’s paintings be donated to the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, Austria.
