The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is lucky to have dedicated volunteers who ensure the vitality of this incredible community resource. Membership has a rich history of volunteer engagement, with leadership groups that provide support in growing the membership base and stewarding existing members.The Hall Family Foundation’s Modern Sculpture Initiative began in 1992, and the collection rapidly grew. Claes Oldenburg’s and Coosje van Bruggen’s site-specific Shuttlecocks, a generous gift from the Sosland Family, were completed in 1994. The acquisition of sculptures by numerous artists in the 1990s called for expansion.Selections inspired by the Nelson-Atkins presentation of 30 Americans—an exhibition of four decades of contemporary African American art exclusively drawn from the Rubell Family Collection.
